Nail polish was probably the first girly thing I really got into when I was a teenager. I was never really a girly girl growing up and didn’t even start wearing make up until I was 18, but painting my … Continue reading
So, this week Wimbledon kicked off and as a huge tennis fan it’s something I’ve been looking forward to for weeks, and it’s when you know Summer has finally arrived. (The consistent rain delays are usually a giveaway of a British Summer)
Today I’d seen a really great post from Lucy’s Stash (it’s a fantastic nail art blog, you must check it out!) and was inspired by Lucy’s post to celebrate Wimbledon on my own nails.
I’m not going to lie, I’m not particularly talented when it comes to nail art so instead I’ve gone for a simple ode to the colours of the All England Club.
I used Rimmel’s 60 seconds polish in Pompous and Avon Nailwear Pro in Peppermint Leaf. I wasn’t really feeling a shiny finish for the look, so finished it off with a matte topcoat.
I’m determined to sport this look for the rest of the championships (Yes I’m a big tennis geek) so I’ll be interested to see how long it lasts without chipping!
One last thing… VAMOS RAFA! 😉

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last few days. I’ve been busy back at work and just haven’t really felt like blogging as it’s been a bit of a weird few days. Anywhooo I’m back with another Nails of the day post. I’m really loving the pastel colour trend coming our way this Spring and love how they can brighten up my mood even on a grey, dull day like today has been.
I’ve gone for my usual ‘ring finger in another colour’ look and used ‘Love u 24/7’ from MUA’s new Love Hearts Collection along with Avon’s Nailwear Pro in Peppermint Leaf. I absolutely love these two colours together and think they really compliment each other well 🙂 The application of both is great. Peppermint leaf especially applies really nicely and the formula is brilliant meaning you only need one coat for the desired look and colour you see in the bottle.

Happy 2012 everyone! I hope you all had a brilliant time last night if you went out or if like me just chilled out and enjoyed an evening in (I’ve never been big on NYE I have to admit!) I can’t quite believe how quickly the last year has gone, but onwards and upwards I say, forget about the old and embrace the new… Speaking of which, I thought I would share with you the results of the new nail polish I had for Christmas. I wasn’t too sure about the colour at first, as it’s not something I would usually choose, and in the bottle it did look a pinky red shimmer, and I always tend to avoid red at any cost. I have to admit though I was pleasantly surprised by the application and now absolutely love it! When applied to the nail it comes out a far more berry red/purple colour and its got that subtle hint of shimmer that just brings that something extra to it.
Admittedly it is a very festive shade, but I think it will still work during the following winter months we have ahead of us and add that little something to your nails. I have one other Avon Nailwear Pro Polish and was really impressed with the application of that and Dynamo applies just as well. The photo shows the results with two coats and a clear topcoat and it’s staying power was impressive too. I wore the polish for almost a week, including during working in a very hectic and chaotic Next Sale and not until about the 5th day did I notice it starting to chip. I prefer the darker look I got from the polish with two coats, but if you wanted a lighter shade but still a good coverage one coat would suffice I think.
All in all I’m really impressed with the polish and think it will definitely become a regular feature on my nails over the next few months.

It’s been a week or so since my last post, so thought I would come back with a vengence over the next few days now that I finally have some time to myself. The last week has been absolute madness, with the rush of Christmas and work coming out of my ears after only getting one day off for Christmas Day and that was it! (Don’t you just love retail!) Anywho, apologise for not posting for a while and I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and are all looking forward to celebrating the New Year with a bang.
So I just wanted to post a little something about what I had for Christmas this year, and considering I literally only asked for one thing I was really chuft with all the gifts I had this year and I’m very grateful to everyone who got me something, so let’s get stuck in. Sorry again for poor quality of photo’s, I’m again relying on my rubbish iPhone.
Firstly I had a few little stocking fillers from my parents, which mainly consisted of Avon cosmetics all of which I was really happy with… I had a lovely sized make-up bag, which comes in real handy seeing as my collection seems to be growing a lot recently. (Another blog to follow on what I’ve been buying lately!) Along with a few little goodies. I really loved the nail polish my Mum chose which was the Nailwear Pro in Dynamo, which I’ll do another blog post on to show how it applies. Also I got two lip balms – one in candy apple and one in lollipop flavour and they both smell absolutely delicious and are really moisturising on the lips. The lollipop one in very pink in colour though which worried me at first because I’m not the biggest pink fan, but it’s really not as bad as I thought it would be. I also got a little eye and lip pallette with just a selection of cream eyeshadows and lip balm inside. Have yet to try this out but I’m really looking forward to seeing how they apply and how pigmented the eyeshadow’s will be.
Other little beauty bits I got were from my friend and my brother and sister-in-law which included 2 natural collection nail polishes (crystal clear and peach manicure) both of which are just a must have in a nail polish collection so I was really chuft and have been meaning to get a clear polish for ages, so thanks Lauren, you read my mind!
One of the only things I actually asked my parents for this year was a yankee candle, and my god did my mum pick well (after she told me she’s gone from shop to shop looking for the right one) I got the Christmas Cookie Medium Jar and I haven’t stopped sniffing it since I unwrapped it. It smells so lovely and sweet and ‘very vanilla-ry’ as my brother described it. The only trouble is now I don’t want to light it because I don’t want to ruin it! haha, how silly!!
Also from my brother and sister-in-law I got the Ted Baker Body Scrub which smells absolutely delicious and I cannot wait to start using it, and also some GHD Thermal Protector Spray, which I’ve never tried before so I’m really looking forward to seeing what it’s like. Again it smells yummy!!
My brother and sister-in-law also got me a new Nica Purse which I LOVE!! My brother even said he knew I liked them because he read my blog haha! It’s a gorgeous tan colour with loads of room inside for change, cards and notes along with the signature Nica lining inside which is my favourite thing about the brand. Thanks Steve and Louise!
I also got another little present from my best friend, which was this cute little ‘teatime’ foldaway bag from Paperchase which is so so cute. I was actually eyeing these up in the shop just before Christmas but resisted buying one because at the time I had zilch money, so again I was super chuft when I opened this up. This sort of gift is just perfect aswell, especially now we have to pay for carrier bags in Wales, because it just folds away nicely into your bag and even has a little clasp to attach it to your keys or your handbag so you don’t forget it.
From my parents I had, a Me to You Lap Tray, for those lazy evenings in my flat when I’m eating my dinner in front of the TV (which is every night! haha) And a cushion for my sofa, because my Mum knows how much I love Mini’s and the cushion is teal which is my favourite colour at the moment) And sticking to the Teal theme, I also had the duffle coat I have been eyeing up all of the Autumn season, and which I featured in a monthly favourites ages ago… It’s so cosy and warm, and I can’t wait for the weather just to get that little bit colder (never thought I’d be saying that in December but it has been stupidly mild lately!) so I can layer up and just go out all cwtched up in it. I absolutely love it, and am so pleased with it.
So that’s everything I had for Christmas, along with some money from my Grandparents, some socks and some Cadbury Fingers (“,) So all in all a very spoilt Fi and I am incredibly grateful for everything that I got.
Hope you all had a wonderful festive period… Thanks for reading! x
My nail polish collection is relatively modest at the moment but it’s something I am working to expand upon, and just something I wanted to share so far. Nail polish i probably the most often bought cosmetic for me because it’s something I always find reasonably priced, and I really think there is nothing like the look of freshly painted finger and toe nails. It’s always a great way to splash a bit of colour into your life and to liven up dull natural nails.
I always make sure to use a base coat before applying any nail polish, something I realised was crucial after once painting my nails with Barry M’s Spring Green and when I removed it, was left with stained yellow nails for weeks after not using base coat before hand! My go-to base coat has since been the Collection 2000 nail care 2in1 base coat and ridge filler with keratin. After applying, it always leaves my nails looking healthy and protects really well against staining. It’s also affordable at around £2.99, and definately something I will always repurchase.
In terms of nail polish itself, my favourite brand is without Barry M. Their selection of colours is second to none and for the amazing price of £2.99 each, the quality of their finish is incredible. The brush is long and narrow, making application effortless and mistakes easy to rectify and remove. I have to say however, after recently discovering Topshop nail polish collection, this is definitely becoming a close second to Barry M, as again their selection of colours is amazing and there are definitely plenty I want to get my hands on. The only thing with these polishes is that their consistency I have sometimes found a little watery and the price in comparison to Barry M is pretty steep at £5 each, but they are worth the odd splurge now and again.
Another favourite in my collection would have to be the Avon Nail Wear Pro Polish. At the moment I only have one of these but the one I do have is in one of my favourite shades (I love anything teal/minty) and the consistency of the polish again is great on your nails and hard wearing and not too watery. This is definately a preference for my toe nails especially!
So…here’s a few little pics and a little run down of all the polishes in my collection…so far!
